CMT Indexes move with the market and express volatility because they respond quickly to changes in the economic market. It reacts more quickly than the COFI & MTA indexes but more slowly than the CODI. If rates are dropping then this is a good index to use. CMT Morgage Index
This is short-hand for 'Constant Maturity Treasury' and these indexes are the weekly or monthly average yields for Treasury Securities adjusted to constant maturities. The CMT is essentially a 'theoretical' set of securities that is based on recent of auctions of actual securities. These actual securities include bills of one, three, and sixe months; bills of two, three, five, ten, and thirty year notes, as well as 'off-the-runs' in the seven to twenty year maturity range.
