MTA Morgage Index: Stands for the 'Monthly Treasury Average' and is also known as the '12 MAT'. This is a relatively new index that is derived from the 12 month average of the monthly average yields of treasury securities and then adjusted to a constant maturity of 1 year. Worded differently, it is calculated by averaging the previous 12 monthly values of the Constant Maturity Index.Since this index is an annual average it is steadier than the CMT.
