Why Delaying RRSP Withdrawals Creates a Tax Bomb

Join Neil Dietrich and Patrick Goldring for a live conversation about how RRSPs actually work once saving stops and why understanding that now can change what’s possible later.

Most Canadians Are Taught How to Save for Retirement.

Almost no one prepares us for what comes after.

On Feb 5th, join Neil Dietrich and Patrick Goldring, professional coaches and mentors, as they show you how retirement plans really play out when the saving phase ends and money has to start supporting their life instead.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll see how RRSPs transition from saving vehicles into income sources, what changes when withdrawals become part of the picture, and why many people are surprised by how the rules affect flexibility and taxes later. The goal isn’t to tell you what to do, but to help you see the full lifecycle of your retirement plan more clearly.

Here’s what you can gain by attending:

A clearer picture of what happens after saving ends: You’ll learn how retirement plans behave once money has to start supporting your life, and why the income phase often feels very different from the saving phase people are taught.

See how decisions that feel harmless today can matter a lot more later: See how choices that feel harmless today, where you save, how long you defer, and what assumptions you’re making can shape outcomes much later, especially when timing and flexibility matter more.

A long-range framework for evaluating retirement plans: Learn how to think beyond accumulation and deductions, so you can better judge whether the way you’re saving now aligns with the kind of retirement and legacy you want later.

This event is for you if…

You’re earning a steady income but feel like your money never seems to get ahead, no matter how carefully you plan.

You’re tired of watching cash flow in… and right back out to banks, taxes, or unpredictable expenses.

You’re thinking long-term and want a way to grow wealth you can access, protect, and pass on.

You care deeply about your legacy and want to leave your kids more than just money. You want to give them a system.

You’re curious how the Infinite Banking Concept (IBC) can fit alongside your current debt, savings, or investment goals without adding risk or complexity

Meet Your Host

Neil Dietrich

Neil followed society’s traditional path – study hard, work hard, get a good job, and it’ll all work out.  Neil was called to the bar in 2008 and practiced law for 16 years before coming to Ascendant.

He worked predominantly in prosecutions and also started investing in real estate. But no matter how hard he worked and how great a career he had, Neil realized that something just didn’t seem right.   It wasn’t “all working out” according to the traditional line of thinking.
He came to learn about Infinite Banking in 2020 and implemented the process shortly thereafter, both personally and with his real estate.

He became so enthusiastic about the process that he joined Ascendant in early 2024 to spread the word about Nelson Nash’s powerful concept.   He is now helping clients gain clarity on becoming their own banker so that they can reclaim the banking function in their lives and the generations that follow.

Patrick Goldring

Rick began his career with Sun Life as a life insurance agent, later evolving his practice to focus on Retirement Income Planning. He specialized in helping individuals within five years of retirement prepare with confidence and in assisting retirees by structuring predictable and sustainable income streams. Rick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and is both a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
In addition to his financial career, Rick spent 12 years in municipal government, including eight years as Mayor of Burlington, Ontario, bringing a strong background in leadership, governance, and public service.

In 2019, Rick returned full-time to the financial sector, where he focused on working with successful business owners on wealth and estate planning, tax minimization, and insurance-based planning strategies. He joined Ascendant Financial in 2024, further expanding his education and capabilities. Through Ascendant, Rick is now able to offer a broader, more integrated approach—coaching and mentoring households and business owners to take control of the banking function in their lives, recapture interest currently paid to banks, credit cards, and finance companies, and finance life’s needs in a more efficient and tax-advantaged way.
